Many medications interact with different food. many interactions have been studied, but there are still a lot unknown interactions as well. Fruit products, but dairy products as well are known to have an impact on the effect of the medication. By using Gloup medication swallowing gel you minimize the risk on those unwanted and unknown interactions.

There are different versions available. Gloup Original and Gloup Forte contain a small amount of sugar (0,5 grams per intake).
If you prefer a sugar free version, Gloup Zero would be your best choice. The natural sweetener Xylitol is used instead of sugar. Xylitol is a natural sweetener coming from the Berk tree.
No, there is a bit of starch in Gloup and by definition amylase has an influence on starch.
However, amylase has no negative effect on the structure of the bolus, nor has it a significant effect on the breakdown of the bolus and on the IDDSI-level.
The rest of the components of Gloup intercept the effect that amylase has on the starch.
Gloup does not contain allergens, so no lactose and gluten either.
Gloup does not contain animal products and it does not contain alcohol.

Unopened Gloup can be used for 2 years, please check expiry date on the packaging.
After opening Gloup can be used for 2 months.
No, you don’t have to keep Gloup in the fridge. Gloup needs to be kept between 2 and 25 degrees Celsius. However, you are allowed to keep it in the fridge.
A tip to make swallowing easier however, is to keep Gloup in the fridge. The cold product will have a positive effect on the swallowing reflex.
In case of extreme high temperatures, where 25 degrees Celsius is exeeded, it definately needs to be kept in the fridge.
On all packages of Gloup you can find IDDSI- Levels. These levels are internationally used by speech therapists. the standard catagorizes fluids and foods in different levels, based on consistency. If you have dysphagia, these consistencies are very important, as you will have a diet based on the Level that is needed in your personal situation. The consistencies of Gloup are always guaranteed the Level that is on the packaging. All Gloup products are IDDSI Level 4 from the fridge, so even safe in case of severe dysphagia. There are different packaging available. Which one suits you best is depending on how many times per day you need to take medication.
- 25 stick packs in a box: If you use it every now and than, a total of 25 intakes. Benefit of this is that all the stick packs can be kept for 2 years.
- 75 ml tube: This small tube is perfect for use during travel (it is allowed in hand luggage). Can be used 15 times, so appropriate for antibiotics for a few days.
- 150 ml tube: Good for 30 intakes, so perfect if you need to take medication once a day, or antibiotics for a longer period.
- 500 ml bottle: perfect if you need to take medication multiples times during the day. When using 3 times a day, the bottle will last about a month. Benefit of this packaging is the pump dispenser, which gives you the perfect amount of Gloup per intake, with just one pump.
Gloup needs to mask the bad taste of the medication, this can be done by adding an aroma. You can imagine that if we would remove the nice flavor, Gloup wouldn’t mask the bad taste of the pills enough. For people that face swallowing issues with medication, the horrible flavor of the medication is often a problem. We fix this issue by adding a nice aroma.

How to use
If you are not suffering from dysphagia, it would be possible. In case of no dysphagia the thickness of the product is not essential, as you can swallow thinner products safely. By adding a liquid, Gloup will become a bit thinner. Gloup will now mask the bad flavor of the medication. In case of dysphagia, using Gloup with liquid medication is not allowed.
- Put medication on a spoon.
- Put enough Gloup on top to cover the entire pill.
- Swallow the entire thing at once.
- Do you use Gloup for the first time? Try first without pills, so you can get used to the taste and texture.
With Gloup you can definately take multiple pills at once. Exception is pills that have a negative impact on the other, or cannot be taken together for another reason. if you have any doubt, always ask your pharmacist whether your medication can be taken at once.
Always ask your speech therapist which version of Gloup would be most suitable in your case. There are IDDSI Level 3 and IDDSI Level 4 products available. There is always a version of Gloup available that suits your personal needs.
Normally you use 5 ml per intake. With this amount the intake of the medication is made much easier. If needed you can use a bit more. The medication can be taken in multiple doses as well. The intake of extreme high volumes of Gloup can only lead to mild health issues. This would be flatulence and diarrhea.
Gloup cannot be used if a person cannot swallow independently anymore.
Gloup cannot be used for liquid and effervescent medication.
If you do not suffer from dysphagia, and you are still allowed to drink water, you could take a glass of water after the intake with Gloup if this is recommended in the IFU of the medication. However, it is not necesarry. If you have dysphagia, please decide whether it is possible based on your personal situation. Always ask your speech therapist her opinion about the right consistency. Please keep in mind that taking thickened water right after the intake with Gloup can have a serious impact on the absorption of the medication. We would recommend not doing that.
Gloup exists of 85% water and is therefore the best alternative is water is not an option.
Gloup is made of food based ingredients used often and safe in the food industry. However; There are insufficient data to establish the safety of Gloup for use during pregnancy or breast- feeding.

Gloup can be used from the age of 2 and up. Between the age of 2 and 6, we recommend to use a maximum amount of 3 times a day, as the intake of all ingredients stay well below any amount of ‘Daily intake advised’.
